Lilt organizes translation data into Memories. These contain specific sentences and phrases for language pairs. Lilt is equipped with a Default Memory for each supported language pair. The Default Memory can be updated by uploading existing Memories or Termbases to it.
Managing your Memories is an important part of localization. For this reason, Lilt provides tools for adding and editing Memories directly within the application through the Memories tab in the upper-right.
Inside the the memories tab are two pages:
- My Memories: Displays all the memories you are the owner of.
- All Memories: Displays all memories you are the owner of in addition to memories for projects where you are the manager.
To search for specific memories, start typing in the search bar and Lilt will actively filter the memories that match as you type.
Each Memory is shown in a container with the following information:
- Memory name
- Memory anguages
- total words within the Memory
- date that Memory was last updated
Memories are sorted by their updated dates, with the most recently updated at the top.
Creating and deleting Memories
Clicking the Create New Memory button in the upper-right will open a popup to create a new Memory.
The create new memory popup box has the following fields:
- Memory name: The name of the memory.
- Source: The source language of the memory.
- Target: The target language of the memory.
- Adaptive memory: Whether or not to enable Lilt's adaptive memory for suggestions for MT. Read more about adaptive memory here.
Clicking the Delete Memory button on a Memory opens a popup to confirm that you want to permanently delete the Memory.
Editing a Memory
Updating a memory will affect all the projects using that memory with no latency. Your translators are guaranteed to always be working with most up-to-date version of the Memory.
Click on a Memory or click the Edit Memory button to open up the Memory view where you can edit all the contents and settings of the selected Memory.
The Manage Resources page lets you upload any existing resources you may have to the selected Memory. Once resources are added to the Memory, Lilt will populate these added translations as suggestions within the editor for any projects utilizing this Memory.
See the Uploading Memory Files article for details about uploading files to your Memory.
If you want to back up or utilize a Memory outside of Lilt, click on the Export Memory as TMX button to open a popup that prepares the Memory for download and then lets you download the Memory as a TMX file.
If you only want to export specific entries of a Memory, you can do so under the Manage Memory tab by selecting the entries you want to export and then clicking the TM Entries button.
Managing QA rules
QA rules allow you to perform automated quality assurance on translations directly in the editor. For more information about setting up and utilizing QA rules, see these articles:
Managing memories from projects
In addition to managing Memories from the Memories tab, Lilt allows you to manage a project’s associated Memory directly from the project view. This is done by clicking the Memory button to open a dropdown menu and then selecting the dropdown option for the action you want to perform.
