Overview

LILT enforces character limits across all verified workflows to ensure translated segments meet length requirements defined by source files. Character limits are supported for existing character-limited file types via connector and XLSX files.

How Character Limits Work

Pretranslation

  • 100% TM matches that exceed the character limit are populated but unlocked for editing, and considered new words.
  • Instant translations which exceed the character limit will also always be unlocked.

In the CAT Editor

  • Linguists cannot confirm a segment that exceeds the character limit. A warning is displayed when attempting to confirm an oversized segment.
  • The character limit is visible in the segment metadata in the field max_char_limit so linguists can adjust translations accordingly.

What’s Out of Scope

  • Multi-segment character limits (a single limit shared across multiple segments in a paragraph) are not currently supported.
  • Setting character limits at the domain level is not supported.
  • Tag inclusion/exclusion from character count calculations is not configurable at this time.
