Trados Enterprise

LILT +Trados Enterprise connector enables companies to automatically push and pull web content between Trados Enterprise TMS and LILT. This saves you time by providing seamless localization while letting you continue to work in the systems you know.

This Knowledge Base article will cover all of the necessary steps for install, configuration and use, as well as an FAQ with additional info and tips!

Installing and Configuring the LILT Connector

  1. To install the LILT Connector, contact your LILT Account team for assistance.

  2. You will need to provide your LILT Account team with the following information to ensure that the necessary configurations are enabled for integration between your LILT and Trados Enterprise instances. If you need assistance finding any of the below information in Trados, a member of LILT’s Solutions team can support collecting these during an onboarding call.

    1. Trados API URL (https://lc-api.sdl.com/public-api/v1/)

    2. Trados Authentication URL (https://sdl-prod.eu.auth0.com/oauth/token)

    3. Trados Client ID

    4. Trados Tenant ID (Found in the Manage Accounts page of Trados)

    5. Trados User ID ( This can be found by navigating to Users tab on Trados and clicking on your user. The User ID will be at the end of the URL)

      • NOTE: The LILT user must be one of the following roles to achieve necessary permissions for the integration: {“Admin”, “Developer”, “Project Manager”}

  3. The LILT team will also ask you about your workflow preferences to derive any optional configurations for the LILT + Trados Enterprise connector. This may include:

    1. Your workflow stage names

    2. Target data sources

    3. Optional setting to auto-create new data sources for new language pairs

    4. Project naming conventions, including any custom fields from Trados you would like to include in the LILT project names.

    5. Intention to sync full translation memories or termbases from Trados to LILT

Setting up Translation Workflows to be sent to LILT

  1. In Trados Enterprise, create or edit a Workflow on the Resources > Workflows tab such that the LILT User (from step 2f above) is the default assignee for the workflow stage where translation should occur. Alternatively, LILT can be assigned on a project-by-project basis if you prefer not to have a default assignee for the entire workflow.

  2. (OPTIONAL) If you intend to use the LILT + Trados Enterprise connector to transfer and sync Data Sources, the Workflow should also include a dedicated stage with the LILT User assigned.

Sending a Request for Translation

Project creation

  1. Create a Project in Trados with the relevant workflow (defined above)

  2. In the General tab:

    1. Select source and target languages

    2. Add a Description (which will be sent to LILT as Project Notes)

    3. Select “Default File Type Configuration”

    4. Upload translatable and reference files to the project and designate these in the “Usage” column, respectively

  3. Click “Next”

  4. In Translation Engine tab:

    1. Select “LILT Translation Engine”

    2. Remove any Translation Memories by hovering on the row and clicking the “X” icon. These translation memories will be automatically mapped to LILT in a later step.

  5. Click “Next”

  6. No changes specific to LILT are needed in the Pricing Model tab. Click “Next”.

  7. In the Workflow tab:

    1. Select your translation workflow and click “Create” to kick off the project in its workflow.

Viewing the Project in Trados Enterprise

  1. Once the project has pre-processed, you can see it in the Stages tab of the selected Project.

  2. Once in the translation stage assigned to LILT, you will be able to see LILT translation statuses for each target language.

    1. Once submitted for localization, the status will change to “Ready to start.” This status is how our Connector identifies entries that are ready to be picked up for localization.

    2. LILT periodically checks Trados Enterprise for content that has been sent for localization with LILT. When this content is found, LILT Projects are automatically created that contain the content to be localized. Once the content is pulled into LILT, the status in Trados Enterprise will display In Progress.

    3. LILT periodically checks for Projects marked as Done. When this is detected, the translated content is automatically sent back to Trados Enterprise. Your language pair statuses will update in real time as they are delivered.

    4. Once all languages are complete the project can be moved to the next stage of the workflow.

Optional Features

Domain-specific Data Sources

If you would like LILT translations to leverage distinct data sources that are domain-specific, you can notify your LILT Account team during the connector configuration stage of onboarding. They will ask you for the following information to configure the LILT + Trados Enterprise connector accordingly:

  1. The “Name” and associated “Trados Domain API Internal ID” of the Custom Field which designates the domain or content type of each Project created in Trados Enterprise.

  2. Which data sources (in LILT) should be designated with each domain or content type. This will drive the mapping.

Your LILT Account team will then configure your connector to automatically detect this domain information projects are sent to LILT for translation.

Data Source Sync (workflow stage)

In some scenarios, it can be beneficial to re-sync the translation memory from Trados to LILT after the translation step - e.g. after an external in-context review. You can optionally set up the LILT + Trados Enterprise connector with a specific workflow stage that re-syncs the translation memory. If you would like to set this up, you can notify your LILT Account team during the connector configuration stage of onboarding. They will ask you for the following information to configure the connector accordingly:

  1. What “Workflow Stage Name” from Trados Enterprise you wish to trigger the sync to LILT

  2. Whether or not you want duplicate entries to be skipped when importing to LILT (default/recommendation is to skip duplicates)

Termbase Sync (separate configuration)

If terminology changes are happening outside of LILT, it can also be helpful to configure a regular cadence of syncs, e.g. weekly or daily, to ensure that LILT always has the most up-to-date terms during translation. If you would like to set this up, you can notify your LILT Account team during the connector configuration stage of onboarding. They will ask you for the following information to configure the connector accordingly:

  1. Termbase “Name” and associated “Trados resource id” in Trados Enterprise. The resource id can be found at the end of the URL of the selected termbase.

  2. Which Data Sources in LILT should receive updates from Trados.

  3. Frequency at which you would like to have updates sent to LILT.
